This weekend, the Central Mare Inspection of our Barock Pinto Studbook took place at the beautiful Sunrise Stables in Assen, which has been our “home base” for many years now.
On Friday, a great deal of work was done to make sure everything was ready for Saturday’s inspection. Thanks to the many hands involved, everything looked absolutely perfect. Behind the scenes, in the office, many hours had also been spent preparing for the event. A big thank you to everyone who contributed!
Apart from a brief shower, the weather was very pleasant for the horses. All the stables were occupied, and additional stables had even been set up, as there were more than 85 entries across the various classes – a record number! Regular speaker Maarten Schraa certainly had plenty to announce throughout the day.
Judges Barend Damste, Geertje van de Veen and aspiring judge Luciel van der Kooi were in the ring for the young horses and the three-year-old and older mares. They started with the three-year-old and older horses in hand after they had been measured, while the foals began their presentation in Ring 2. Simon Hoeksma, Arie van Heeswijk and aspiring judge Ilona Tuyn formed the judging panel for the foals.
In the XX filly foal class, Rhosa van het Mergelland (Lancelot BP105 x Delviro HBC), owned by L. Schillings, received a beautiful first premium with 44.5 points. A luxurious foal with a light-footed trot and plenty of breed expression.
The best FB filly foal, scoring 45 points, was Romina Deladix (Lancelot x Monte 378), owned by M. Dix. She showed a technically correct trot and also scored highly for her limbs.
In second place in this group, with 43.5 points, was the typey Ruby van het Middengras (Pyter FB35 x King XX02), owned by E. Ammerlaan.
In the FB colt foal class, the outstanding trotting Rutger (Ieme BP60 x Sipke 450), owned by H. de Ruiter, took the lead. He received an impressive 9 for his trot and scored 45 points overall.
The impressive Remmelt fan Quatrebras (Menso 542 x Jure 495), owned by J. de Graaf, followed closely behind with 44.5 points.
Next it was time for the BP category, the main section of our studbook. Among the fillies, the long-legged Ras van de Dingspel (Manno 541 x Jan FB24), owned by I. Bel/Harms, took first place with 44 points. She showed plenty of knee action and a powerful trot.
Rebelessa V&S Royal (Siebren 547 x Dries BP118), owned by B. de Vries, was placed second with 43 points and received a very consistent score sheet.
The BP colt Rolex Applonia (Zuperhero XX37 x Norbert 444), owned by J. Lindeman-v.d. Wal, achieved the highest score of all the foals, with an impressive 47 points. He showed three strong basic gaits and a very attractive overall appearance.
The second-highest score went to the uphill-trotting Rico MW (Kenzo BP Ster91 x Zuperhero XX37), owned by M. Wemmenhove, who scored 45.5 points.
The different categories for the one- and two-year-olds were combined because there were only five participants. Maudi HD (Homozygoot Hardwel x Bontfire XX06), owned by M. Out, had been referred from the inspection in Bovenkarspel, and this proved to be for good reason. This beautiful and complete yearling once again presented herself very well and took first place.
Alongside her was the spectacularly trotting two-year-old O’Rosie MP (Jorryt BP85 x Manno), owned by SDC Stables, who received 43.5 points.
Among the three-year-old mares presented for registration in the XX category, Namira van Soma (Imperium BP97 x Sir Sisco), owned by S. Lien D’Urso, proved to be the best. This strikingly spotted and correctly built mare, with plenty of breed type and more than sufficient basic gaits, was provisionally awarded the Elite predicate with 45 points. Thanks to this excellent performance, she may now also call herself Best of XX, as she was awarded the sash.
Among the four-year-old XX mares, Oreo de Luxe (Dries BP118 x United) received a first premium with 43 points. She improved throughout her presentation and showed a very good walk with plenty of rhythm and regularity.
There were no mares presented for registration in the FB category. However, one FB mare was presented for a higher predicate: Lykke van Cisco (Sir Cisco x Fetse 349), owned by F. Stiemsma. At 16 years of age, Lykke was in remarkably good condition and still showed an excellent foundation. She was awarded the Elite predicate with 44 points, having already completed her IBOP. She was also presented with the Best of FB sash.
The other mare presented for a higher predicate was the BP mare Hanna van den Hogenkamp (Hugo van ’t Spolman x Brend 413), owned by T. Hogenkamp. She made a strong impression and had improved significantly compared with two years ago. She received an impressive 8.5 for her lovely way of trotting and had also developed beautifully in terms of conformation and breed expression.
Nikki MLK (Jonas BP71 x Ulke 338), owned by F. Melk, was placed first among the three-year-old BP mares. This mare, with plenty of breed expression, achieved the same number of points as the second- and third-placed mares, but impressed the judges with her breed type and was awarded the Ster predicate with a second premium and 41 points.
Alongside her was Wilhelmien (Willem 508 x N.N.), owned by D. Reinsma, who moved through the ring with plenty of flair and expression in her trot.
At the top of the four-year-old and older BP mares was Krekt wat fan Dijkmaniastate (Zotirco x Eibert 419), owned by D. Dijkman, with 44.5 points. This nursing mare trotted with plenty of balance and power and presented a harmonious overall picture, earning her the provisional Elite predicate.
Merci Suprice (IJsbrand BP64 x Kendrik van de Thijenkaampe), owned by M. Out, was placed second and received a respectable second premium with 41.5 points.
The Queens’ Class was also on the programme, with nine mares making their appearance. In the XX category, the beautifully modelled Jewel fan ‘e Bunte Pleats (Dries BP), owned by D. Hoogendoorn, was crowned champion. In addition to her striking appearance, she is also an all-rounder in movement.
The other two mares in this category, Tessa and Lexi van Twenthe, also presented themselves very well, but the judges ultimately chose Jewel.
There was one participant in the FB category: the mare High Voltage (Roman Lifestyle W x Nanno 372), owned by L. Kompier. This solid mare gave a neat presentation and proved herself to be a valuable broodmare.
Jackie ‘O Del Casone (Ceasar ter Linden XX05 x Willem van Nassau), owned by R. Blaney, took first place among the BP queens. This complete mare had only recently been separated from her foal but was already in very good condition.
In between the classes, former chief inspector Gerrit Stelwagen was honoured and put in the spotlight. Our great thanks go to him for his many years of dedication, enthusiasm and commitment. In part thanks to his dedication, the Barock Pinto Studbook has become what it is today.
After this, it was time for the riders and the sport class. There were ten participants, divided into four- and five-year-olds and mares aged six and over. Corrie Raven and Ilona Tuyn were in the ring to judge this class.
Look at me AL (Dries BP118 x Pier 448), owned by A. Lutgens, took first place in the younger group. According to the judges, she is a very rideable horse, showing plenty of uphill tendency and balance in all three basic gaits, as well as a good ability to make smooth transitions.
Second place went to Minthe Hanna E. (Hessel BP114 x Pier 448), owned by E. Heeres. She was somewhat tense at the beginning, but her light-footed way of moving and correct use of her hind leg stood out.
Among the mares aged six and over, Heidi van Hoeve ’t Raamzicht (Eros Ster53 x Brandus 345), owned by C. Martinus-Veld, was placed second. A mare with plenty of presence and a strong, impressive appearance.
Jewel fan ‘e Bunte Pleats (Dries BP118), owned by D. Hoogendoorn, was crowned champion in this group and was the clear winner according to the judges. She was highly impressive in all three basic gaits, showing plenty of impulsion and expression while consistently carrying herself with her withers up.
Finally, the overall championship of the day took place, which is reserved exclusively for BP horses. The two highest-placed mares from the three-year-old and four-year-old-and-older classes, the BP champion from the Queens’ Class and the winner of the higher-predicate class were invited to compete.
One by one, the mares were given another opportunity to present themselves in hand and impress the judges. Eventually, only two horses remained. The mare Krekt Wat fan Dijkmaniastate was named reserve champion,
while the powerful-trotting Hanna van den Hogenkamp was crowned Day Champion 2026!
